NSGK: The government will have to check the possible inaction of officials in forming the state reserve
The Lithuanian government has been urged to investigate the potential inaction of officials responsible for state reserve formation, as recommended by a committee.
The National Security and Defense Committee (NSGK) of Lithuania has unanimously decided to request that the government investigate the possible inaction of certain officials responsible for the state's reserve formation. This includes conducting appropriate service checks to determine whether these individuals have failed to perform their duties adequately. Rimantas Sinkevičius, the committee's chairperson, emphasized that it is up to the government to identify which state officials have potentially neglected their responsibilities related to the state reserve.
Sinkevičius pointed out that the officials in question are those tasked with ensuring the accumulation of the state reserve. The committee's appeal to the government aims to detail which individuals may have not fulfilled their obligations. Furthermore, he mentioned that the committee will continue to exercise parliamentary oversight on this matter. However, he did not specify whether the circumstances surrounding the reserve's formation would be referred to law enforcement in the future.
The proposed service check is intended to reveal whether any inaction on the part of the officials was willful neglect, harmful behavior, simple laziness, or even a lack of resources. This investigation highlights the importance of accountability among officials in Lithuania, especially in the context of forming a state reserve that is crucial for national security and emergency preparedness.
