VMI Adjusts Income Declaration Date: Everything You Need to Know
The Lithuanian State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) has adjusted the deadline for income declarations to February 17, considering the regular deadline falls on a non-working day.
The Lithuanian State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), through its deputy director Martynas Endrijaitis, has announced an adjustment to the income declaration deadline for taxpayers. Specifically, the deadline has been shifted to February 17 this year, due to the original deadline of February 15 falling on a weekend. This adjustment aligns with the legal framework that allows for an extension in cases where the last day of the deadline is a non-working day. The VMI is responsible for collecting and processing data regarding income payments classified under categories A and B, which need to be reported by entities withholding taxes on behalf of residents.
Currently, VMI has received 86,756 valid personal income tax declarations (GPM311) for the year 2025, but there are a total of 397,612 taxpayers who are obligated to submit their declarations based on current data regarding individual activities, business licenses, and property sales. This highlights the significant administrative task faced by the VMI in ensuring compliance amongst the taxpayer population.
Additionally, taxpayers are reminded that if they have overpaid their income tax for the previous year, they can reclaim this excess payment by submitting their annual income tax return electronically. This offers a crucial opportunity for residents to correct any discrepancies in their tax contributions from the prior year, ensuring they are not unfairly penalized for excess taxation, which is a critical aspect of financial accountability and taxpayer rights in Lithuania.
