A social housing project with 250 apartments planned on Dzelzava Street in Riga for 15 million euros

A new social housing development on Dzelzava Street in Riga aims to provide 250 apartments, with special accommodations for people with mobility disabilities, funded partly by the European Regional Development Fund.

The upcoming social housing project on Dzelzava Street in Riga is set to feature 250 apartments, with plans to accommodate up to 10% of the units for individuals with mobility impairments. Each apartment will have an average area of approximately 30 square meters, including separate kitchen and sanitary facilities. The project, estimated to cost around 15.38 million euros, aims to significantly contribute to addressing the housing needs in the city.

Funding for the project will come mainly from the European Regional Development Fund (ERAF), which will provide close to 10 million euros, while the remainder of 5.38 million euros will be contributed by SIA "Rīgas nami" as co-financing. Public procurement for the development of the multi-apartment building's project is expected to be announced shortly. The completion and handover of these new homes is anticipated by the end of 2029, which positions this project as a long-term solution to housing needs in Riga.

As of February 1, 2023, there are 1,491 registered individuals in Riga seeking assistance with housing issues, and 745 households are currently waiting in line for social housing rentals. This social housing initiative not only aims to tackle the immediate housing crisis but also reflects the city administration's commitment to inclusivity by enhancing living conditions for the disabled and families in need.
