Pets in the Sky expands
In Mexico, the pet funeral services market is growing at an annual rate of 25% to 30%, driven by a significant number of pet-owning households.
In Mexico, the pet funeral services market is experiencing remarkable growth, with annual increases between 25% and 30%, largely due to the 25 million households that share their lives with pets. As reported by Pets in the Sky, the demand for pet farewells has skyrocketed, increasing twelvefold over the past decade, from 1,000 services in 2015 to a projected 12,000 by the end of 2025. The company, led by Adrián Rodríguez-Granada, currently operates four branches and eight crematoria, providing round-the-clock services after implementing night shifts that have assisted 500 families between June and September 2025.
Despite Mexican families spending between 2,270 and 8,325 pesos monthly on pet care—accounting for 10% to 20% of household income according to studies by Trendo and Condusef—the concept of funeral planning for pets remains relatively undeveloped. This reflects a growing but still emerging culture surrounding end-of-life services for pets in the country. As the market for pet funerals grows, it highlights a shift in societal attitudes towards pet ownership and the emotional bonds families share with their companion animals, suggesting an increasing recognition of pets as members of the family.
As this segment of the economy expands, it may lead to further innovations in the industry, possibly prompting other businesses to enter the market and offer various services tailored to the needs of pet owners. Furthermore, this trend could influence the way families view their pets, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive care that includes planning for their eventual passing. Overall, the developments in the pet funeral service industry could indicate broader changes in family dynamics and pet preservation practices in Mexico.
