Former member of 'Harmony' council Ločmele joins LPV

Former 'Harmony' deputy leader Regīna Ločmele has joined the 'Latvia First' party (LPV) as they prepare for the upcoming Saeima elections.

Regīna Ločmele, the former deputy chair of the Harmony party, has officially joined the Latvia First party (LPV), marking a significant shift in her political career. According to LPV chairman Ainārs Šlesers, Ločmele is set to run in the Saeima elections as part of LPV's Riga electoral list. This move comes after her departure from Harmony earlier this year, a party that has struggled to secure seats in both the Saeima and the Riga City Council in recent elections, despite Ločmele being one of its prominent figures.

The decision for Ločmele to join LPV is noteworthy against the backdrop of ongoing changes within the Harmony party. Jānis Urbanovičs, the chairman of Harmony, stated that the party is undergoing composition changes because it can no longer promise positions or prosperity to its members or the prospect of career advancement. This admission reflects the party's declining influence and the challenges it faces moving forward within the Latvian political landscape.

Additionally, during a recent congress, the Harmony party announced its decision to unite with the Center party, forming a new alliance called 'Harmony Center' to contest the upcoming Saeima elections scheduled for October. This strategic adjustment may allow them to attract other associations and civic movements, yet it remains to be seen how effective these changes will be in revitalizing their political standing.
