Paramedic Medics in Panevėžys to Film Aggressive Patients
A pilot project in Panevėžys aims to enhance the safety of emergency medical personnel by implementing body cameras to document aggressive patient incidents.
In Panevėžys, Lithuania, a pilot project is being launched by the local Emergency Medical Services (GMP) to introduce body cameras for paramedics in response to increasing safety concerns. The initiative was confirmed by the head of the Panevėžys branch, Rūta Ramoškienė, while emphasizing the project's goal to not only protect the staff and patients but also increase transparency in the services provided. The project is still in the preparation phase, gathering insights from various experts to ensure comprehensive solutions based on legal and practical experiences.
To facilitate the implementation of the body cameras, a multidisciplinary working group has been established. This group includes leaders from the emergency service, IT professionals, cyber security experts, data protection specialists, and emergency paramedics from the Panevėžys branch. Their collaboration aims to formulate an effective deployment strategy, ensuring that both the legal framework and operational aspects are well aligned for the use of cameras in such sensitive contexts.
As part of the preparatory work, internal legal regulations will have to be developed, including guidelines for the use of body cameras and updates to video surveillance rules. The initiative underscores a proactive approach to managing challenging situations in emergency medical care, ultimately aiming to create a safer working environment for paramedics and a safer experience for patients who may be facing distressing situations that lead to aggressive behavior.
