A huge hole on the main highway: traffic jams since the morning

A significant traffic jam has developed on a major highway in Lithuania due to a large pothole and icy road conditions.

Traffic jams have emerged on Lithuania's A1 highway following reports of a large pothole that caused significant delays from the early morning hours. According to Artūras Šliavas, the head of communications at the Šiauliai Police Department, road workers tried to fix the issue but it seems the pothole reopened, contributing to the traffic problems. The Waze app indicated that traffic was moving considerably slower than usual from the Prapymo settlement to Paežeriai between 7 AM and 9:30 AM.

Additionally, drivers using the Waze application reported hazardous conditions, such as black ice on the highway, especially near Stungaičiai in the Šilalė region. This suggests that the combination of the pothole and icy road conditions has made traveling particularly challenging on this route. The Rietavas Police Department also confirmed the presence of difficult driving conditions on the A1 highway, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and the need for immediate attention from local authorities.

Lrytas has reached out to the Road Maintenance Department for further comments on the incident and plans to update the publication once a response is received. The situation underscores the ongoing challenges of road maintenance in Lithuania, especially during adverse weather conditions that can quickly evolve into dangerous driving scenarios for residents and travelers alike.
