The Indian government is set to introduce a significant change in the veterinary sector with a new digital vaccination system for livestock. This reform aims to make the vaccination and artificial insemination services transparent, secure, and fully digital. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that livestock owners receive timely services and that accurate records of animals are maintained. By integrating digital verification through Aadhaar and mobile numbers, the government seeks to improve service delivery in veterinary care.

Under this system, field staff from the animal husbandry department will ask livestock owners for their Aadhaar and mobile numbers, especially in cases where old records lack complete ownership information. A single Aadhaar number will be linked to only one livestock owner to prevent any discrepancies or duplications in records, thereby enhancing the accuracy of service delivery. This systemic change is likely to streamline operations in the veterinary sector and improve accountability among service providers.

Starting February 15, 2026, it will be mandatory to share an OTP (One-Time Password) after the vaccination of animals. Upon vaccination, farmers will receive an OTP on their mobile phones, which they must share only with authorized vaccinators to avoid any possible misuse. This measure aims to protect the integrity of the vaccination process and ensure that the services are correctly recorded in the name of the legitimate owner.
