The Tigray region in northern Ethiopia has been the site of one of the deadliest conflicts in recent history, with estimates suggesting that up to 800,000 individuals lost their lives between 2020 and 2022, out of a population of roughly 7 million. The conflict, which involved Tigray's security forces against the federal forces of Ethiopia, Eritrea, and various ethnic militias, has been characterized by horrific acts including organized massacres, extensive sexual violence, and mass displacements of civilians. This level of violence and human rights violations is unparalleled in contemporary global conflicts, yet it has not received the global attention it merits, drawing comparisons to crises in Ukraine, Yemen, Sudan, and Syria.
