ICC assures that Mexico must improve its fight against corruption to achieve greater investment
The International Chamber of Commerce in Mexico has warned that substantial improvements in combating corruption are necessary for the country to attract investment and foster economic growth, highlighted by a recent Transparency International report.
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Mexico has expressed urgent concerns regarding the country’s need to significantly improve its anti-corruption measures. According to their statement following the release of Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), enhancing the country's corruption performance is essential not just for reputation but as a fundamental requirement to attract foreign investment, create quality jobs, and improve the standard of living for Mexicans.
The ICC pointed out that Mexico scored 27 out of 100 on the CPI for 2025, a slight improvement from the previous year at 26 points. However, this minor increase does not reflect an improvement in its relative international standing, as other countries have made more significant progress in addressing corruption. This suggests a concerning trend where Mexico is failing to keep pace with global improvements in governance and transparency.
Ultimately, the ICC’s statement underscores the vital connection between corruption elimination and economic development. If Mexico is to attract more investments and generate employment opportunities, substantial reforms in governance and anti-corruption initiatives are necessary. Without these changes, the country risks falling further behind other nations that are prioritizing transparent business environments and sound governance practices, ultimately impacting its economic growth prospects.
