Municipal guard of Vitória dies after feeling unwell during physical test

A municipal guard in Vitória, Brazil, died after experiencing health issues during a physical fitness test.

Leandro Rodrigues, a 49-year-old municipal guard in Vitória, Brazil, tragically passed away while undergoing a physical fitness test on Thursday morning. The incident occurred outside the Tancredão gym located in the Mário Cypreste neighborhood, where he exhibited signs of discomfort. Despite immediate assistance from the technical team present, he was later taken to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Hospital but unfortunately could not be revived.

According to the municipal guard's department, the physical fitness test for employees over the age of 45 includes a 2.6-kilometer walk that must be completed within 27 minutes. Rodrigues, however, completed this in just 11 minutes, indicating he was physically fit at the time. After finishing the activity, he signed the required documentation and was waiting for the completion of his colleagues’ tests before he suddenly fell ill.

The incident has raised concerns surrounding the physical demands placed on older candidates in such evaluations. It underscores the need for potential medical screening or health assessments prior to engaging in strenuous physical tests to ensure the safety of the participants, particularly those in higher age categories. The local community has expressed shock and condolences towards Rodrigues's family and colleagues during this difficult time.
