Hundreds of Australians warned after personal details found in scam compound

The National Anti-Scam Centre has alerted 300 Australians that their personal information was discovered at a Cambodian scam center raided by Thai authorities.

The National Anti-Scam Centre (NASC) of Australia has issued a warning to hundreds of Australians after personal details were found in a Cambodian scam compound raided by the Thai military. The Thai authorities conducted a raid on the O'Smach scam centre where they uncovered a fake Australian Federal Police office and various illegal operations. In total, the details of approximately 300 Australians, including their phone numbers, names, and addresses, were discovered in the documents seized during the raid.

In light of this discovery, the NASC took proactive measures by sending out text messages to the affected individuals, advising them on steps to safeguard their personal information and how to respond if they have been contacted by scammers. This is especially pertinent as Australians reported losses to scams amounting to nearly $335 million in the year 2025 alone, with a significant portion attributed to investment scams, highlighting the prevalence and gravity of the issue.

The involvement of international authorities and the uncovering of a counterfeit AFP office underscore the importance of international cooperation in combating fraud and cyber-crime that spans across borders. The situation serves as a stark reminder for Australians to remain vigilant against scams and underscores the pressing need for enhanced public awareness about protection measures against such nefarious activities.
