They commit fraud all over the world. Cambodia shuts down 200 online centers during raids

Cambodia has recently closed nearly 200 fraudulent online centers as part of a crackdown on various internet fraud schemes.

In recent weeks, Cambodia has intensified its efforts against online fraud by shutting down nearly 200 fraudulent centers in a series of raids. According to a senior government official, the country has become a hotspot for various online scams, which range from romance schemes to fake investment opportunities and illegal gambling operations. These centers target victims globally through deceptive tactics.

Chhay Sinarith, a deputy head of Cambodia’s Anti-Online Fraud Commission, reported that as of Wednesday, around 190 locations had been closed down. The crackdown began late last year, catalyzed by the arrest and extradition of a prominent Chinese tycoon, Chen Chi, who was allegedly linked to an international cyber fraud network. Since the initiative started, Cambodian authorities have apprehended 173 individuals connected to running these centers and deported approximately 11,000 workers, frequently identified as victims of human trafficking.

The crackdown highlights Cambodia's commitment to combatting the rise of online fraud, which poses significant risks to both domestic and international communities. With increasing awareness around cybercrimes, the Cambodian government's actions could serve as a model for other nations dealing with similar issues, prompting a stronger regulatory framework to protect potential victims and punish offenders. The situation underlines the pervasive nature of online fraud and the need for collaborative international responses to these crimes.
