The album 'Mãeana canta JG,' which highlights the works of João Gilberto and João Gomes, is now available in a limited edition vinyl format after its digital release.
The album 'Mãeana canta JG' features the unique collaboration of two influential musicians: João Gilberto, the legendary figure behind bossa nova, and the emerging star João Gomes. Initially launched in a digital format in August 2024, the physical LP version, made from 180-gram blue vinyl, showcases the artistic vision of carioca singer and songwriter Ana Claudia Lomelino, who performs under the persona Mãeana. The artwork and design of the album were crafted by notable artists, ensuring a visually appealing product to complement the music.
Released in February 2026 with a limited run of 300 copies, this LP marks a significant moment in Mãeana's career, concluding a creative cycle that began in October 2022 with her debut show 'Mãeana canta JG' in Salvador, Bahia. The show toured various cities in Brazil throughout 2023, exemplifying the dynamic fusion of generations within Brazilian music. The artistic production included contributions from musicians Bem Gil and Sebastian Notini, enhancing the studio recording with rich orchestration.
The album contains 16 songs spanning 12 tracks that merge the styles and influences of both João Gilberto and João Gomes. Through this work, Mãeana not only pays homage to bossa nova's roots but also revitalizes the genre by bringing contemporary influences to the forefront, thus connecting different eras of Brazilian music. This innovative project highlights the ongoing evolution of the country's musical landscape and showcases Mãeana's role as a bridge between past and present.
