One story that stands out is that of Mahmoud, a 12-year-old boy who lost all of his family members during a devastating explosion in his camp in Deir al-Balah. He narrates how a simple errand for bread turned into a nightmare when he returned to find his parents and three siblings had tragically died, making him the sole survivor. His harrowing experience emphasizes the trauma that many children in Gaza are enduring, having witnessed the loss of their entire family amidst violent conflict and upheaval.

Following his traumatic loss, Mahmoud spent days in a shelter before being welcomed by another family for temporary support. However, as his mental health deteriorated, he reached out for help through the newly created project "The Only Survivor". This initiative aims to integrate affected children into care and education programs, striving to help them regain some stability in their lives after the brutal impact of war.
