Banda do Lira turns 20 and will celebrate at the Poços Carnival
Banda do Lira is celebrating its 20th anniversary with lively performances at the Poços Carnival.
This year, Banda do Lira is commemorating two decades of musical legacy, with festivities set to take place during the Carnival in Praça Pedro Sanches. The celebrations will be highlighted by the presence of the Bonecão do Lira, a large puppet that pays tribute to the group's founder, Sergio Alvisi, who was affectionately known as Lira. Dressed in the Brazilian national team's shirt, the puppet not only enhances the festive atmosphere but also symbolizes the founder's passion for football, as noted by his son, Eduardo Alvisi, who recalls Lira's travels to support the Brazilian team in past World Cups.
Following the passing of Sergio Alvisi in December 2023, the leadership of Banda do Lira now rests with Maestro Miguelzinho. The band consists of 16 musicians across various instruments, including brass, guitar, and percussion, along with three singers who alternate in performing traditional Carnival songs, known as marchinhas. This transition in leadership signifies a continuation of Lira's vision, ensuring that the band's vibrant and entertaining spirit is maintained in every performance.
The inception of the Bonecão do Lira was observed during the Carnival celebrations in Poços-Caldas in 2024. Created by Eduardo Alvisi, this project aims to engage attendees and foster a connection to the origins of Banda do Lira, enhancing the festive experience. As the community comes together for the anniversary celebrations, the legacy of the band and its founder is honored, ensuring the spirit of Carnival remains alive and vibrant in Poços.
