Following the shooting, a video surfaced on social media featuring a woman urgently requesting medical assistance for the wounded individual while police from the Coordinating Special Resources (Core) were present at the scene. This area has a history of violence, exacerbated by the activity of drug traffickers.
The Civil Police reported that officers from Core were in the area when they witnessed military police pursuing suspects. Providing support for this operation, Core teams faced fire from narcotraffickers at one of the access points to the Maré Complex. This resulted in an exchange of gunfire, highlighting the dangers prevalent in the area due to ongoing gang conflicts. After the shooting, Core agents received information regarding an injured resident and rushed to provide medical aid.
Responding swiftly, the team arrived with an armored vehicle to ensure the safety of both the responders and the victim. They conducted first aid on the injured man and transported him to a hospital for further treatment. This incident reflects the persistent violence in the region and the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing crime amid ongoing confrontations with criminal organizations.
