The National Coalition Party filed a report to the police
The National Coalition Party in Finland has filed a police report concerning a possible misuse of its membership register, impacting the personal data of 191 individuals.
On February 12, the National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) in Finland reported that it has filed a police inquiry regarding the potential misuse of its membership register. This inquiry is specifically related to incidents occurring within the Kokoomus Youth Union, where personal data of 191 individuals may have been compromised. The party suspects that sensitive information might have fallen into the hands of an external party.
The discovery of this potential data breach comes after a routine year-end review of the membership register, during which it was noted that membership fees for 191 individuals had been paid by an unidentified person to eight different Kokoomus youth associations towards the end of the previous year. Disturbingly, some of these payments were made without the knowledge of the members themselves, raising concerns about internal leaks of sensitive information within the party.
The situation unfolded as unusual banking transactions were observed, indicating that a significant amount of membership fees had been paid in a short period by the same individual. The National Coalition Party is now undertaking a thorough review and investigation of the matter while cooperating with the police to address the breach and safeguard the privacy of its members.
