Driver who collided with medic vehicle agreed to 45 euro fine but regretted after paying it
A driver in Klaipėda who collided with an emergency medical vehicle accepted a 45 euro fine, later expressing regret after discovering new details about the incident.
On February 16, 2025, at a traffic intersection in Klaipėda, a Mitsubishi Outlander failed to yield to a Volkswagen Amarok carrying emergency lights and sirens, resulting in a collision. Both vehicles were significantly damaged, with the emergency vehicle crashing into a streetlight and barriers, while the Mitsubishi struck a traffic light and road sign. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, but the damage to both cars was substantial. Following an investigation, Klaipėda police determined that the driver of the Mitsubishi acted recklessly, classifying his actions as violations of traffic regulations. In June of the previous year, the driver was issued a 45 euro fine for his actions. While he paid the fine, he later expressed a desire to reopen the investigation, claiming that new evidence had come to light that could affect the outcome of the case. The situation highlights the complexities surrounding traffic accident investigations, particularly when parties involved wish to contest initial findings. The police's decision not to reopen the case at the driver's request also raises questions about accountability and transparency within law enforcement and traffic regulation enforcement in Lithuania.
