8-year-old girl shot in attempted robbery in RJ
An 8-year-old girl was shot in the head during an attempted robbery in Nova Iguaçu, Brazil, and is currently in critical condition.
A tragic incident occurred in Nova Iguaçu, a municipality 35 km from Rio de Janeiro, where an 8-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to the head during an attempted robbery on the evening of November 11. The girl was traveling with her father in their car when assailants attempted to rob them, firing shots at the vehicle as it passed. The girl is now hospitalized in critical condition following surgery and is being monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
According to reports from the Military Police, the robbery attempt was executed by suspects who overtook the victim's car and fired shots in their direction before fleeing the scene. The police were alerted and quickly arrived to assist in the child's transportation to the hospital. Unfortunately, at this stage, the assailants have not yet been apprehended, and the investigation is being conducted by the Civil Police at the local police station.
This incident highlights the alarming rate of violent crime in Nova Iguaçu, with the municipality recording 1,824 vehicle thefts in 2025 alone, as indicated by the Public Security Institute. The ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle such crimes are critical in improving safety and security for the residents of this area, which has witnessed increasing trends of violence.
