The secretary of the Itumbiara municipality, Thales Naves Alves Machado, is suspected of killing his two sons before committing suicide.
Thales Naves Alves Machado, the secretary for the city government in Itumbiara, Goiás, has been implicated in the tragic shooting of his two sons, aged 8 and 12, early on Thursday, October 12. The incident reportedly occurred within their residence, where both boys tragically succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to local hospitals. After the shooting, Machado also took his own life, prompting an outcry from the community and the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this horrifying event.
The victims have been identified as Miguel Araújo Machado, 12, who died shortly after arriving at the Municipal Hospital Modesto de Carvalho, and Benício Araújo Machado, 8, who was in critical condition post-surgery but ultimately passed away in the intensive care unit of the Hospital Estadual de Itumbiara. This devastating incident has raised serious concerns regarding family safety and mental health, underlining the need for preventive measures in communities that may be affected by domestic violence and mental health issues.
Following the occurrence, the Civil Police of Goiás announced the initiation of a police inquiry to delve deeper into the details of the case, which is being handled by Itumbiara’s Homicide Investigation Group (GIH). The investigation aims to ascertain all facts related to the case treated as two completed homicides followed by Machado's suicide, spotlighting the critical importance of law enforcement’s role in addressing domestic tragedies and providing support systems for those in need.
