VIDEO: Children and other cancer patients participate in carnival block at hospital in PI
Children and other cancer patients at Hospital São Marcos in Teresina celebrated the traditional carnival block, aimed at promoting well-being and happiness among patients.
On February 12th, patients, staff, and companions at Hospital São Marcos in Teresina participated in a festive carnival block designed to bring joy and uplift spirits within the cancer treatment units. The event featured the Banda Mocinha, which led the celebration through various departments, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy for both adults and children. The hospital's initiative focused on enhancing the patients' morale and creating a joyful environment amidst their rigorous treatments.
A highlight of the event was 3-year-old Aurora, who has been battling leukemia for over a year. Her occupational therapist, Fernanda Xavier, emphasized the positive impact of the carnival celebration on the children in the pediatric oncology unit. She noted that such events provide a refreshing and joyful change in their routine, allowing these young patients to experience happiness, which is essential for their overall well-being during treatment.
The carnival block not only served to entertain the young patients, but also aimed to foster a sense of community and support among families, healthcare providers, and the broader hospital environment. This celebration illustrates the importance of integrating joy and normalcy into the lives of those undergoing serious medical challenges, highlighting the role that such events can play in the healing process for both children and their families.
