Suspect of killing a woman with stabs to the chest during year-end parties is arrested in Amapá
A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Amapá, Brazil, as a suspect in a femicide that occurred on Christmas Day 2025.
The Civil Police of Amapá arrested a 19-year-old man on Wednesday, December 11, suspected of committing femicide. The arrest was made by the Homicide and Person Protection Division (DHPP), which completed its inquiry and forwarded the case to justice. The police investigation reveals that the crime happened on Christmas morning, December 25, when the body of a 46-year-old woman was discovered with stab wounds to the chest in an abandoned house in the Muca neighborhood of Macapá, a city in Amapá. According to Delegate Paulo Moraes, head of the DHPP, the investigation commenced after the woman's body was found on December 26, 2025. The suspect was identified and confessed during interrogation, claiming he acted in self-defense due to a debt with the victim and denied any romantic or sexual involvement. However, the evidence suggests otherwise, as surveillance images showed him following the victim in various locations around the Muca neighborhood and luring her to the house where the crime took place. The case highlights ongoing issues of violence against women in Brazil, especially femicides, which have alarmingly increased in many regions. The authorities emphasized the importance of thorough investigations in such cases to ensure justice for the victims and to discourage such crimes in the future. The legal proceedings against the suspect are now underway, raising awareness about the need for stronger preventive measures against gender-based violence in society.
