On alert, Rio Capivari reaches 1.90m and Civil Defense evacuates families in flood-prone areas
Rio Capivari is on alert for flooding after reaching 1.93 meters, prompting the evacuation of two families by local authorities.
Rio Capivari, which runs through Capivari city, reached an alarming level of 1.93 meters early on Thursday, leading to a state of alert for possible overflow. In response, the Capivari City Hall took preventive measures by evacuating two families living in the most at-risk areas of the municipality. This action was fully precautionary, occurring amidst heavy rainfall and meteorological warnings issued in the region.
As of now, there have not been any reports of flooding or homes being affected in the city, but officials are closely monitoring the river's levels. The Civil Defense has indicated that the river typically overflows when it reaches 2 meters, hence their proactive stance to ensure community safety. Fortunately, the river’s level has been decreasing since Wednesday afternoon, suggesting an improvement in the hydrological conditions.
The situation highlights the vital role of local authorities, such as the Civil Defense and the Department of Social Development, in safeguarding residents against natural disasters. As rainfall continues in the area, ongoing vigilance will be essential to prevent potential damage and ensure the well-being of the community, particularly for those living near the riverbanks.
