Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's representative: before moving to Warsaw, we contacted the Prime Minister, but unsuccessfully
The representative of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya mentioned attempts to communicate with the Lithuanian Prime Minister regarding security arrangements before relocating to Warsaw, but received no response.
The representative of Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Dainius Kučinskis, reported that prior to Tsikhanouskaya's planned move to Warsaw, her team reached out to the Lithuanian Prime Minister for support, but did not receive any response. Kučinskis noted that while attempts were made for a compromise and to arrange a meeting, these efforts proved fruitless, leaving the situation unresolved.
Kučinskis emphasized that the opposition team had maintained frequent communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Office, indicating several meetings took place where they discussed the necessary support for Tsikhanouskaya. Despite the lack of response from the Prime Minister's side, Kučinskis acknowledged that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did everything possible to secure a diplomatic status and support for Tsikhanouskaya, highlighting the complexity of the government’s position amid ongoing political tensions in Belarus.
The suggestion from Tsikhanouskaya's team regarding security arrangements involved reducing the number of personnel assigned for her protection, which reflects their willingness to compromise on terms, potentially to continue their operations in Belarusian politics from abroad effectively. This situation underscores the challenges faced by the opposition in garnering the necessary support from the Lithuanian government while navigating the diplomatic sensitivities involved in the ongoing Belarusian crisis.
