Sviatlana Cichanouskaja has started working in Warsaw, promises to continue activities in Vilnius
Sviatlana Cichanouskaja's team will expand its operations in Warsaw while maintaining activities in Lithuania.
Sviatlana Cichanouskaja, a prominent Belarusian politician and opposition figure, has begun her new role based in Warsaw. Her office has announced that despite this relocation, her team will also continue its activities in Lithuania. Cichanouskaja aims to enhance cooperation with Polish and international allies as well as the Belarusian community residing in Poland, particularly as this country hosts the largest group of Belarusian exiles.
In her statement, Cichanouskaja emphasized the importance of strengthening relationships with allies, highlighting Poland's role as a hub for Belarusian exiles. She believes that expanding her presence in Warsaw will help bolster collaboration and support for the Belarusian opposition movement, which faces significant challenges domestically under the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko.
This strategic move to Warsaw reflects a broader trend among Belarusian opposition figures to operate from neighboring countries, where they find a more supportive political climate. Cichanouskaja's commitment to continue her work in Vilnius suggests an ongoing effort to maintain connections within Lithuania, crucial for solidarity among Belarusian communities in the region.
