Plan International is organizing an event where girls and young women will take the leadership roles of various prominent figures for International Women's Day.

Plan International, a humanitarian organization, is set to host an initiative around International Women's Day in March where girls and young women will take on the roles of key leaders for a day. This initiative aims to give them firsthand experience of leadership positions that are predominantly held by men. Among the participants is 18-year-old Annika Mikkonen, who is set to serve as the Prime Minister of Finland for the day, alongside other young women stepping into various prominent roles such as the heads of labor unions and media.

Annika Mikkonen, a resident of Vantaa, emphasizes that the majority of leadership positions worldwide are still held by men, and through this experience, she aims to demonstrate that girls and women equally belong to these leadership roles. Her appointment as acting Prime Minister occurs on March 5th, marking a significant moment that aligns with the celebration of women’s contributions to society. Other candidates from different parts of Finland include Hilde Torvalds, Salla Penttinen, Kimya Fayaz, and Nicol-Maria Stefanidou, who will also step into various leadership roles for the day.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo commented on the initiative, expressing his support for giving Annika the opportunity to lead for a day. This event not only highlights the importance of gender equality in leadership but also inspires young women to aspire to positions of power and influence. Such initiatives are crucial in breaking down barriers and stereotypes surrounding women in leadership, showcasing that leadership capacities are not defined by gender but by capability and ambition.
