Finnish ski jumping legend Janne Ahonen made his debut in speed skiing at a World Cup event in Salla, Finland, where he competed alongside his son Mico Ahonen.

Janne Ahonen, a renowned ski jumper from Finland, participated in his first speed skiing World Cup event in Salla alongside his son, Mico Ahonen. Competing in the S2 class, which utilizes FIS-approved speed skiing equipment, both father and son showcased impressive performances in their races. Janne achieved a semifinal speed of 124.01 km/h, securing seventh place, while Mico outperformed him with a speed of 126.94 km/h, ranking him as the third fastest in the semifinal.

In the finals, the roles were reversed, with Mico finishing sixth at a speed of 118.83 km/h, while Janne came in seventh at 115.94 km/h. The event was won by Czech competitor Jan Duchan with a speed of 121.31 km/h. Ahonen expressed his enthusiasm for the new sport, indicating that should their speed and passion for racing persist, they might aim to compete in more events next season. This shift in Ahonen's sporting career follows a distinguished career in ski jumping, where he has gained significant recognition.
