Renault Korea surpasses cumulative production of 4 million vehicles at Busan plant
Renault Korea has announced that its Busan plant has surpassed the milestone of producing 4 million vehicles since its establishment.
Renault Korea has marked a significant achievement by surpassing 4 million vehicles produced at its Busan plant, a milestone it reached on the 12th of this month. This accomplishment comes 26 years after the company's inception in the domestic market in 2000. The Busan facility is recognized as a global strategic hub within the Renault Group, primarily responsible for the production of mid-size and large sedans, contributing significantly to Renault Korea's overall growth with around 2.2 million units shipped domestically and approximately 1.8 million units to international markets.
Among the various models produced at the Busan plant, the mid-size sedan SM5 has been the most significant, with nearly 954,000 units manufactured. Other notable models include the SM3 and Nissan Rogue, which have also seen substantial production numbers of 805,000 and 585,000 units, respectively. The plant is equipped with a mixed production system capable of manufacturing up to four different platforms and eight vehicle models simultaneously, showcasing its flexibility and efficiency in responding to market demands.
CEO Nikola Paris expressed pride in the Busan plant's quality competitiveness, committing to leverage this milestone as a new starting point towards producing 5 million vehicles. The plant's recent upgrade in January last year, transforming an internal combustion engine production line to accommodate electric vehicle assembly, underscores its strategic shift towards more sustainable vehicle production, including hybrids and purely electric models. Such adaptability positions Renault Korea well for future growth amidst shifting automotive industry trends.
