LH to launch construction of 26,000 public housing units with private participation this year
Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced plans to commence construction of 26,000 public housing units across 42 blocks this year, utilizing private collaboration.
The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) has revealed its ambitious plans to kickstart construction of 26,000 public housing units this year through private participation in the public housing sector. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to leverage private sector expertise and branding to enhance the provision of public housing in South Korea, scheduled to occur within 42 designated areas across the nation. According to LH, the plan for this year includes approximately 16,000 units expected to be launched from two earlier calls for projects, alongside an additional 10,000 units anticipated to open for application in the first half of the year.
Previously, LH initiated its first call for projects at the end of January targeting six blocks in four districts including Incheon Yeongjong and Yangju Hoichun, which together culminated in around 3,000 housing units. The regions involved are set to shift to direct implementation following the 'September 7 measures' instituted last year. Furthermore, a selection of private partners is expected to be finalized by March, with further plans for another announcement scheduled post-April that could involve conversion zones like urban idle land and various other projects totaling 15,000 units across 21 blocks.
O Joo-heon, head of LH's Public Housing Division, emphasized the commitment to collaborate with private developers to ensure the effective execution of government housing supply policies. The timely and quality delivery of safe public housing is a priority, as discussed during the recent '2026 LH Private Cooperation Governance Forum', held in Suwon, which gathered over 300 attendees from various private construction companies to address plans and necessary improvements regarding the public-private project initiatives.
