Three former managers of the Abruzzo Region were found responsible for the Rigopiano tragedy that resulted in the loss of 29 lives, while the former mayor was acquitted, sparking outrage from victims' families.
The latest ruling by the Court of Appeals in Perugia has determined that three former regional officials, Carlo Visca, Pierluigi Caputi, and Vincenzo Antenucci, are guilty in connection with the Rigopiano hotel tragedy, which led to the deaths of 29 people. They have been sentenced to two years in prison, concluding a lengthy appeal process. Contrarily, the court acquitted several other individuals, including the former mayor of Farindola, Ilario Lacchetta, as well as former municipal technician Colangeli and other regional officials. Meanwhile, two former provincial directors received prescriptions, raising serious concerns among the public regarding accountability.
