The rainforest of the Tallinn Zoo, under renovation since autumn, will open by May at the latest

The Tallinn Zoo's Southeast Asian rainforest exhibit, undergoing renovations since autumn, is scheduled to reopen no later than May as work draws to a close.

The Tallinn Zoo has announced that its Southeast Asian rainforest exhibit, which has been under renovation since autumn, is expected to open to the public by May at the latest. The renovations have been necessary due to various issues that the exhibit faced after its initial opening a few years ago. Kaupo Heinma, the zoo's director, indicated that alongside the rainforest, the zoo's tropical house also underwent repairs, which has already reopened as of the beginning of the year.

According to Heinma, the renovation work on the rainforest is proceeding as planned, with most of the work now completed. However, the opening of the exhibit is pending due to the need to enhance the conditions for the animals before they can return. The logistics of moving the animals back into the rainforest are complicated by the cold weather, as it is currently difficult to transport them outdoors in freezing conditions.

During the renovation, many of the animals, such as otters and binturongs, have been residing in alternative accommodations. This situation has posed challenges for the zoo but ensures the animals remain safe and comfortable until they can return to their renovated habitat, highlighting the zoo's commitment to animal care during the refurbishment process.
