Where to buy donuts on sale? Here 69 cents each, but there's one catch
Poles prepare for Tłusty Czwartek, with stores offering enticing promotions on donuts for the last Thursday before Lent.
Today marks the last Thursday before Lent, a significant date for Catholics. It signifies that February 12 is the beginning of the final week of Carnival before Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lent leading to Easter. Polish stores are bracing for a massive influx, as it is estimated that people will consume around 100 million donuts on this day. While other pastries like éclairs and cream puffs are also popular, donuts remain the undisputed favorite during this time.
This year, retailers have come up with interesting offers, allowing people to buy these beloved sweets for just a few groszy. On average, each person is expected to eat about 2.5 donuts, a fact highlighted by WP Finanse. The keen interest from the public suggests that popular grocery chains are well aware of this demand, as seen in their multi-buy promotions and advertising efforts.
For example, in the grocery store Biedronka, purchasing six powdered or iced donuts lowers the price to just 0.99 zl each. Other chains like Żabka and Lidl are also likely having similar enticing promotions, emphasizing the cultural significance of Tłusty Czwartek in Poland, where indulging in these treats is not only a culinary delight but also an ongoing tradition as the Carnival season comes to a close.
