The airline has imposed a ban: no coffee on board
Ryanair has banned passengers from bringing coffee or other hot beverages onto its planes, citing safety concerns.
Ryanair, the low-cost airline, has announced a ban on bringing coffee aboard its aircraft, even if purchased at the airport, as reported by the Norwegian Dagbladet. The airline has also extended this policy to apply to other hot beverages. This prohibition is detailed in the airline's regulations, and a similar rule has been noted for Jet2, another low-cost carrier.
According to Dagbladet, Ryanair might impose a fine of up to 50 Norwegian kroner (almost 4.5 euros) on passengers attempting to board a flight while carrying a hot drink. In addition to the fine, any hot beverages will be confiscated. Notably, information about this penalty is not easily found on the airline's website, raising concerns about transparency for passengers.
The airline justifies this stringent measure by emphasizing safety, expressing concerns that passengers could accidentally spill hot liquids on each other while navigating the narrow aisles of the aircraft. The heightened caution arises from a past incident where Ryanair was ordered to pay £4,350 (nearly 5,000 euros) to a British woman who suffered burns after hot coffee spilled on her lap during a flight from England to Mallorca, after which there was only dry paper and cleaning wipes provided to her by the staff.
