Africa must collaborate to unlock energy potential — NCDMB

The Executive Secretary of Nigeria's NCDMB emphasizes the need for unprecedented collaboration across Africa’s energy sector to enhance its global competitiveness.

Felix Ogbe, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), highlighted the importance of collaboration across Africa to enhance the continent's energy sector during his remarks at the 10th edition of SAIPEC in Lagos. He emphasized that a shared vision and cross-border cooperation are essential for developing sustainable local content strategies that can aid in making Africa's energy industry more competitive on a global scale.

Ogbe stressed that effective collaboration involving governments, private sector players, and local communities is the cornerstone of successful local content policies. He presented Nigeria's approach as a model, noting that the country has been intentional in its local content strategy, focusing first on enhancing local participation, followed by capacity building, and finally implementing policies that prevent the transfer of energy-related technologies and practices to foreign entities, thereby fostering indigenous growth.

The call for collaboration is particularly timely as African nations face significant challenges in the energy sector, including underinvestment and an urgent need for modernization. By leveraging the strengths of various stakeholders and fostering a cooperative atmosphere, the continent can unlock its energy potential, ensuring a more robust and sustainable energy future that benefits all its nations and communities.
