Customs train senior officers to strengthen service delivery

The Nigeria Customs Service has initiated a strategic training course for senior officers to enhance leadership skills and improve service delivery amid evolving challenges.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a significant training initiative for its senior officers, focusing on leadership development. The training, known as the 'Senior Customs Command and Leadership Course', is being conducted at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College located in Gwagwalada. This course reflects the NCS's commitment to equipping its leadership cadre with the necessary skills to navigate the evolving operational landscape, security challenges, and trade facilitation needs. Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer, emphasized that this training is a vital component in preparing officers for elevated responsibilities within the organization.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, addressed participants at the training, highlighting the importance of leadership at all levels within the NCS. He articulated that the program represents a crucial investment in the future of the service. Adeniyi also raised concerns about the potential decline in standards, institutional culture, and accountability that could occur as senior officers retire or transition out of their roles. The training aims to counter these concerns by fostering a new generation of leaders who are well-prepared to handle the complexities of modern customs operations.

As the NCS navigates through various operational challenges, this comprehensive training underscores its commitment to enhancing service delivery and maintaining high standards within its ranks. By investing in leadership development, the NCS is not only addressing current issues but also setting a foundation for sustainable and effective customs governance in Nigeria. This strategic move is poised to strengthen the overall mission of the Nigeria Customs Service as it responds to dynamic global trade environments.
