NIMASA plans expansion of Deep Blue Project

NIMASA is planning to enhance its Deep Blue Project for maritime security in response to its success in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced plans to potentially expand its Deep Blue Project, which is a maritime security initiative that has already gained international recognition for its successful impact in the Gulf of Guinea. This statement was made by NIMASA's Deputy Director/Head of Public Relations, Osagie Edward, and underscores the agency's commitment to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of the project. The expansion plans are viewed as a step towards advancing maritime safety and security in one of Africa's key maritime zones.

During a strategic visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, NIMASA's Director-General, Dr Dayo Mobereola, highlighted the achievements of the Deep Blue Project and the significant collaboration between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy. The cordial relationship has been instrumental in executing the project, which aims to combat maritime crime such as piracy and illegal fishing. Dr Mobereola acknowledged the Navy's role and expressed his intent to sustain this partnership to enhance maritime security operations in Nigeria's waters.

The expansion of the Deep Blue Project reflects Nigeria's commitment to safeguarding its maritime assets and ensuring a secure maritime environment for trade and development. As the Gulf of Guinea is crucial for the global shipping industry, NIMASA’s efforts are not only vital for national interests but also significant on an international scale, indicating Nigeria's proactive stance in addressing maritime challenges and fostering safe navigation in its waters.
