Troops destroy terrorists’ camp in Kogi, kill 16 in Borno
Nigerian troops have successfully dismantled a terrorist camp in Kogi and eliminated 16 terrorists in Borno during recent counter-terrorism operations.
In a recent military operation, Nigerian troops from the Army and the Joint Task Force (North East) have made significant strides in their counter-terrorism efforts across Kogi and Borno states. The soldiers, part of Operation 'IGBO IDANU', successfully captured a notorious terrorist camp in the forests of Kogi, where they seized substantial munitions, including eight boxes of linked ammunition and a box of high-velocity grenades. This operation was pivotal in disrupting the activities of a terror group linked to notable figures such as Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu, showcasing the military's resolve to restore security in the region.
The operation unfolded on February 10, initiated from Batijjo’s Camp, and involved a combined combat team and local intelligence to navigate through difficult terrains, including thick forests and multiple riverine challenges. The troops demonstrated exceptional resilience and tactical expertise as they proceeded 1.5 kilometers on foot to reach the designated target. This successful engagement not only resulted in the neutralization of 16 terrorists but also served to recover vital weaponry that could have potentially been used in further attacks.
This achievement by the Nigerian military is seen as a crucial step in the ongoing struggle against terrorism in the country, particularly in areas plagued by violent extremist groups. The ramifications of such operations extend beyond immediate security gains, as they also boost public confidence in the military's capability to protect citizens and maintain peace. Furthermore, the ongoing efforts to recover kidnapped victims during conflicts highlight the dire need for comprehensive approaches to ensuring safety and stability within affected communities.
