A video reveals the moment a stolen helicopter piloted by a thief was brought down shortly after attempting to take off in southern Minas, Brazil.
A stolen helicopter incident in Caxambu, Southern Minas, was captured on video, showcasing the moments just before the aircraft was brought down. The footage, recorded by internal cameras of the helicopter, features the suspect, Luiz Gustavo Fonseca Aires, attempting to pilot the aircraft while operating his cellphone. A sudden loss of control led to a loud noise and activation of alarms as the aircraft was brought down shortly after takeoff attempts.
According to police records, Aires, 52, entered the restricted area of the airport by cutting through a fence and accessed the helicopter at around 11:08 PM. He stayed in the cockpit for about an hour, where he was seen manipulating the controls. The entire event was happening only a few hours before the early morning attempt to take off, highlighting the brazen nature of the theft and the subsequent failure of the operation.
This peculiar event raises questions regarding security at the aviation facility and the enforcement of aviation protocols, especially concerning unauthorized access to aircraft. The incident not only emphasizes the risks involved in such thefts but also prompts investigations into the security measures at the hangar in Caxambu and the overall response from law enforcement following the event.
