Bots and Plūme take fifth place at the Olympic Games
Latvia's luge duo, Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme, achieved a fifth-place finish in the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
In the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, Latvian luge athletes Mārtiņš Bots and Roberts Plūme finished in an impressive fifth place among 17 teams. The competition was highly competitive, with the gold medal awarded to Italian pair Emanuele Rieder and Simon Kaincvalders, who initially ranked third after the first run but then posted the fastest time in the second run. The Austrian team of Thomas Stöckl and Wolfgang Kindls narrowly missed the gold, finishing just 0.068 seconds behind the Italians.
The race saw previous Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt from Germany settle for third place, finishing nine hundredths of a second behind the gold medalists. Another German duo, Toni Eggert and Florian Müller, came in fourth, just a blink behind the former champions. As for Bots and Plūme, they began their run in sixth place after the first race but climbed to fifth after their second attempt, ultimately finishing 0.198 seconds behind the winners, with the podium players just 0.108 seconds ahead of them.
