ELTA Briefly: A. Silickienė's Interrogation by the STT Succeeds on the Second Attempt and Discussions on Taiwan's Representation Name

The Lithuanian Special Investigations Service successfully interrogated Agnė Silickienė regarding possible corruption, while discussions about Taiwan's representation continue.

The Special Investigations Service (STT) of Lithuania has successfully interrogated Agnė Silickienė, a former advisor at the State Plant Protection Service, who is suspected of corruption. Silickienė, who previously served as a legal advisor to Saulius Skvernelis, the leader of the Democratic Union 'For Lithuania', denied following anyone's instructions during her time in office, describing her relationship with Skvernelis as professional but refraining from discussing the investigation details. This marks the second attempt at her interrogation after the first was unsuccessful due to procedural issues.

During the first attempt, complications arose during the verification process that led STT officials to suspect irregularities regarding the car keys of Silickienė's lawyer, Giedrius Danėlius, who refused to leave them in the designated cabinet at STT headquarters. This incident highlighted the challenges faced by the STT in gathering evidence and conducting their investigations effectively, indicating a potentially complex legal situation.

In other news, the Lithuanian state investment firm, "State Investment Capital" (VIK), is set to merge with the national development bank ILTE to attract 1 billion euros for defense industry projects. Additionally, Ryanair is anticipated to eliminate three flight routes starting in April, reflecting ongoing adjustments within the aviation sector amidst changing market dynamics. These developments collectively underline significant shifts in Lithuanian politics and economic strategies, particularly in defense and international relations.
