Suspect arrested with possible explosive device inside bus in downtown Manaus

A man was arrested in Manaus after being caught with a suspected explosive device on a bus, though nobody was injured in the incident.

This morning in Manaus, a man was detained after he was found in possession of a suspected explosive device while on a public bus. The incident took place on Avenida Epaminondas, near a Caixa Econômica Federal agency, prompting immediate action from the police. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from this incident.

The police reported that the suspect was also carrying a knife at the time of his arrest. Once the bus was stopped, officers removed the man from the vehicle and discovered an object in his backpack that bore characteristics of an explosive device. Given the uncertainty surrounding whether the material was genuine or active, authorities cordoned off the area and called in the Explosive Disposal Unit (Marte) to safely assess and remove the object.

According to Major Vitor Moraes, the commander of the 24th Community Interactive Company, the suspect, who is homeless, mentioned that he had been stabbed the previous night near the Hospital and Emergency Care 28 de Agosto. This context raises questions about his health and safety, as well as the reasons behind carrying such a potentially dangerous item in a public space, highlighting the need for broader discussions on homelessness and safety in urban areas.
