Unicamp may have a degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science starting in 2027
Unicamp has approved the creation of a bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, set to begin in 2027.
The Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) has received initial approval for the establishment of a bachelor's degree in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, which is expected to commence in 2027 at its Limeira campus. This decision was made by the Câmara de Ensino, Pesquisa e Extensão (Cepe) and is pending a final vote by the university's Governing Council (Consu) on March 31. The program aims to cater to the growing demand for professionals equipped with AI and data analysis skills in various sectors.
The bachelor's program is designed to last between eight and twelve semesters, requiring a total of 3,240 hours of coursework, and it will initially offer 40 slots for students. Unicamp has outlined a focus on three key areas of study, namely Smart and Sustainable Cities, Public Administration and Digital Government, as well as Health and High-Performance Sports, reflecting the institution's commitment to addressing contemporary socio-economic challenges through technological education.
Furthermore, the course will be built around six pillars of education, including mathematics, statistics, and computing fundamentals, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the labor market. With the potential expansion of the program to the main campus in Campinas from 2028, this initiative not only signals Unicamp’s dedication to advancing academic offerings in cutting-edge fields but also responds to the escalating need for qualified professionals in Brazil's fast-evolving technological landscape.
