In Jharkhand, a mother and her lover were arrested for murdering her 14-year-old son after being fearful of exposing their illicit relationship.

A shocking case has emerged from the Barharwa police station area in Jharkhand, where a mother, fearing exposure of her illicit love affair, conspired with her lover to murder her own 14-year-old son. The victim, Ayush Kumar, was reportedly killed by his mother, Meenu Devi, and her lover, Rohit Saha, who is also the victim's cousin. Following the murder, they disposed of the body near a local pond. Local authorities confirmed the arrests after the case details came to light through the investigation.

The Barharwa Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Nitin Khandelwal, held a press conference to detail the events leading up to the murder, which occurred on February 7, 2026. Initially reported as a case involving unidentified assailants, the investigation shifted following information provided by the victim's father, Hemant Kumar Sah, who filed an FIR. As the police inquiry unfolded, it was revealed that Meenu Devi's relationship with her cousin, which had remained hidden for two years, played a critical role in the tragic outcome.

During the subsequent investigations, authorities received tips that led to the arrest of the mother and her accomplice. Upon interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the heinous act. The case highlights the growing issues surrounding family dynamics, illicit relationships, and the tragic extremes to which some individuals might go to protect their secrets, raising questions about societal values and the safety of vulnerable individuals, particularly within families.
