Are you an unemployed job seeker? Tell us if you are getting help from employment services

Finland's unemployment situation has worsened significantly, with both high numbers of unemployed people and an increased burden on municipal employment services.

Finland is currently facing a serious unemployment crisis, reminiscent of the economic downturn in 2009, with December figures indicating 51,000 more people unemployed compared to the previous year. Among the major cities, Tampere is experiencing the most severe situation, with a notably high unemployment rate and a strong likelihood that many will face prolonged unemployment lasting over three months.

This escalating unemployment crisis is putting immense pressure on local employment services, which are struggling to cope with the increasing number of clients—some workers may be tasked with assisting hundreds of job seekers at once. In response, the Finnish broadcasting company Yle is seeking feedback from unemployed individuals regarding the support they are currently receiving from these employment services.

Yle has opened a platform for individuals to share their experiences through a form, indicating its commitment to covering the issue in a future report. This outreach not only aims to gather firsthand accounts but also to illuminate the challenges faced by job seekers in Finland during this troubling economic period and potentially spur discussions around the adequacy and effectiveness of current employment support services.
