Jandroković on Piletić: The Parliament is Not a Place for Rest for Former Ministers

Gordan Jandroković defended Marin Piletić's return to the Croatian Parliament, stating that it is a place for elected representatives and not for resting.

On Wednesday, Gordan Jandroković, the President of the Croatian Parliament, addressed claims regarding former ministers using Parliament as a resting place. He emphasized that Marin Piletić, the outgoing Minister of Social Welfare, was elected to the Parliament with over 12,000 preferential votes, thus rightfully earning his place there. This statement was made during the presentation of a book titled 'Hidden Burials of Croats in Slovenia', where Jandroković responded to journalists questioning the role of former ministers returning to the assembly.

Jandroković rejected the notion that the Parliament is a resting ground for former ministers, asserting that those who take on the duties of public service, like Piletić, fulfill critical roles that require significant effort, and therefore they should be respected for their contributions. He also pushed back against the characterization of Piletić's return as a sign of exhaustion, suggesting that such interpretations of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković's comments are misleading.

Furthermore, Jandroković highlighted the importance of recognizing the hard work that representatives like Piletić have done during their terms and reiterated that such positions come with responsibilities that are not comparable to the duties of typical parliamentary members. This conversation underscores the broader debate about the roles and expectations of elected officials in Croatia.
