Man is arrested and car seized for irregular disposal of construction materials in Maceió

A man was arrested and his vehicle was seized for illegally discarding construction waste and other materials in Maceió, Brazil.

On Monday, October 10, a man was arrested in Maceió, Brazil, after being caught illegally disposing of construction waste and other materials in the Barro Duro area. The incident was part of the city’s efforts to enforce regulations against improper waste management, where the municipal urban cleaning code stipulates fines ranging from R$120 to R$30,000, depending on the quantity and type of material discarded.

The arrest and seizure of the vehicle occurred during the 'Operação Cidade Limpa' (Clean City Operation) carried out by the Municipal Cleaning Authority (Alurb). This operation aims to discourage negative practices related to the improper disposal of waste, which poses health risks and environmental concerns. The vehicle and the suspect were taken to the headquarters of Alurb, where they were to receive guidance on the correct legal methods of disposal.

Sasha Annet, the General Coordinator for Inspection at Alurb, emphasized that her teams are prepared to enforce the legislation regarding waste disposal. The operation reflects the city's commitment to maintaining cleanliness and public health standards by targeting specific areas where illegal dumping frequently occurs, thus promoting a cleaner environment for Maceió's residents.
