Valdemar says he will 'fight' for the vice-presidential position in Tarcísio's re-election ticket in SP to be from the PL and indicates the name of André do Prado
Valdemar da Costa Neto, the national president of the Liberal Party (PL), expressed his intention to secure the vice-presidential spot for the PL in Tarcísio de Freitas's re-election campaign in São Paulo, proposing André do Prado as the candidate.
Valdemar da Costa Neto, the head of Brazil's Liberal Party (PL), announced on November 11 his commitment to ensuring that the vice-presidential position in Tarcísio de Freitas's upcoming re-election campaign in São Paulo is filled by a member of the PL. In an interview on GloboNews, he introduced André do Prado, the current president of the Assembleia Legislativa de São Paulo (Alesp), as the party's candidate for this position. Valdemar stated, "We will fight for the vice, and our vice is André do Prado, the president of the Assembly for the past four years."
Valdemar's insistence on securing the vice-presidential spot is tied to the PL's standing as a key supporter of Tarcísio's government, emphasizing their substantial influence in the São Paulo legislature, where they hold 20 seats, representing the largest faction supporting the governor. He expressed confidence in the party's ability to increase its representation even further, predicting that they would elect 25 or 26 members to the Assembly. This strong legislative backing positions the PL favorably in demanding a key role in the re-election campaign, underscoring their strategic importance within the state government.
This announcement has implications not just for internal party dynamics but also for the broader political landscape in São Paulo, as the competition for vice-presidential positions often reflects alliances and influences within local governance. Securing this role could enhance the PL's clout in state affairs and increase their bargaining power in future political negotiations, especially as Tarcísio seeks to solidify his chances for re-election in a politically charged environment.
