Ričardo Malinauskas and former judges' corruption case leads to court break due to illness
The hearing in the corruption case involving Ričardas Malinauskas and former judges was halted as several defendants, including Malinauskas, could not attend due to illness.
The ongoing corruption trial against Ričardas Malinauskas and several former judges faced interruptions as many defendants were absent from court, citing health issues. Notably, Malinauskas, who appealed a previous verdict from the Kaunas District Court, has consistently stated that there is no evidence of bribery against him. His absence was noted among several others who also failed to appear, further complicating the proceedings.
During the Wednesday session, Oksana Sakalauskienė, one of the convicted individuals, informed the court of her illness. Her attorney, Vytautas Sirvydis, also reported being unwell and provided medical documentation to the court to support his request for a break. The attorney indicated that he would soon need treatment and would be unable to attend an upcoming session the following Thursday as well.
The presiding judge, Evaldas Gražys, inquired about the condition of Oksana Sakalauskienė's husband, Ernest Sakalauskas, who stated that his wife was struggling with her health and had received medical attention. This situation underscores the difficulties surrounding legal proceedings in high-profile corruption cases, where health issues among defendants can lead to prolonged delays and complications in delivering justice.
