A group from Panevėžys loses assets worth 110 thousand euros: acquired through criminal activities
A group of four individuals from Panevėžys, convicted of drug trafficking, will lose assets worth nearly 110,000 euros, as confirmed by Lithuania's appellate court.
In a recent ruling by Lithuania's appellate court, four individuals from Panevėžys received disappointing news regarding their appeals related to drug trafficking convictions. The court partially upheld the prosecutor's appeal, leading to an extended asset confiscation for two of the defendants, who will collectively lose nearly 110,000 euros worth of property that was obtained through criminal activities.
The individuals were originally sentenced on January 24, 2025, by the Panevėžys District Court for their involvement in the possession and distribution of narcotic and psychotropic substances. Among the convicted was M. Z., who received a significant sentence of 10 years and 6 months due to his possession of a considerable amount of drugs, including over 18 kg of cannabis and 84 grams of cocaine. Another member, Š. Z., was sentenced to 5 years in prison and faced a confiscation order for 5,700 euros due to lesser quantities of drugs in his possession.
This ruling emphasizes the Lithuanian legal system's stance on drug crime and its implications for those involved in narcotics. The substantial loss of assets highlights the government's commitment to combating drug trafficking and deterring similar criminal activities by affecting not only the prisoners but also their financial remains, thereby impacting the wider ecosystem of criminal enterprises in the region.
